Samenvatting
Cancer treatment has been a complex process and for decades only surgery, chemotherapy and radiotherapy were the only options. While chemotherapy is very effective it appears with multiple toxic side effects limiting the dosing amounts. Significant advances have been made recent years and many new therapies incl target therapies using monoclonal antibodies (mAbs) have become available. Although mAbs are very specific they often lack effectivity. By combining the cytotoxic compound with an mAb, resulting in Antibody Drug Conjugates (ADCs) the therapeutic window was aimed to be improved. I will present the history, development and manufacturing of ADCs, issues learned and future, using among others Byondis experience in this field.
